Writing... again!

I haven't blogged in a long, long time. My last blog post was pre-pandemic. Back in 2019 we didn't even use that word.

This morning during my prayer/scripture/contemplation/meditation time I was reading/praying Psalm 46 and the book Spiritual Direction (2006) by Henri Nouwen. I have so much to learn! Henri says that we grow in spiritual depth in our relationship with God through listening, reading, speaking and writing. What? Those are the same four domains that I worked to develop in my students as an ESL teacher. Receptive domains, listening and reading, and productive domains speaking and writing. Yet another way my "previous life" as a K-12/ESL teacher blends into my "current life" as a catalyst/trainer/coach/mentor. According to our friend Henri, the four domains of language acquisition are the same four domains of communication with God. What a concept!

I was especially captivated by Henri's challenge to write. "Spiritual writing" he called it. It's mostly for oneself, but also for others. I'm regularly writing for myself in my journal, but since Henri recommended writing for others (and he did a lot of it!), I want to give it a go again too. Read on if you want, I'm not sure what all I'll say or how often, but I think I need to write and blog again. If you find it helpful, read on and feel free to comment or email me too. Peace!
